TO ENSURE OUR FUTURE BY PRESERVING OUR PAST!
In the late summer of 1994, a group of village citizens interested in history met at an informal meeting in the village office boardroom. The historical buildings of the area seemed to be fast disappearing, and so they decided that some record of the local people and places should be kept for the future. The Burk’s Falls and District Historical Society was born. The Museum was opened in 1997 and is dedicated to the pioneers who first settled in this area. Located at Wiseman's Corners, the building is that of the original schoolhouse: S.S. #4 Ryerson. The school was built in 1893 and carried on successfully for about 65 years. The land consists of a half acre and was purchased in 1892 for $1.63, including 63 feet of lumber! Items on display include First World War postcards, photos of early residents, clothing and apparel, antique machines, medical instruments, and much more!
