Commanda News & Events

July 1st, 11:00-2:00, join us for our Grand Opening BBQ.   While visiting the Commanda Heritage Centre learn more about the life and times of residents of Commanda and area in 1910. We are working hard to provide our community and visitors with a glimpse into the stories and accomplishments of local founding families.

July 21st to24th join us for Fun Fest! Creative play in 1910!  What were kids doing to entertain themselves? On the 21st come out to Family Fun Day and on the 24th 11:00–2:00, join us for our First Annual Teddy Bears’ Picnic. Enter a contest for the Best Dressed, Oldest, or Most Original Teddy. Maybe your Teddy needs some First Aid.

In August don't miss "Threads through Time". The Heritage Centre will have its loom set up and ready to use. Learn about handmade threads, fabric, wool and other essential materials used in making beautiful garments of the past.  Find out how these supplies made and where they came from.  During Heritage Days August 18th to 21st join our special guests to try your hand at thread work, beading, weaving and more. Take home new knowledge and a project to work on!

August 21st - First Annual First Nations Heritage Day at the Commanda Heritage Centre. Drumming, story telling, foods and herbs for healing. Celebrate and learn about Commanda's First Nations past.

We are always working to do our best to show how life was for our heritage families. What where those old tools used for? Where did the artifacts originate? What was the latest invention at the time? How did the settlers in the region survive? What did they do? What hardships did they endure the establishment of Commanda and the other communities that we now call home? We hope that every time you come to visit the Heritage Centre you learn or can share something new so that together we are preserving and understanding the legacies of the past.

Join us July 1st to Labour Day weekend, Wednesday to Saturday 11:00 to 4:00, for a treat in the Tea Room. Find a treasure for Christmas among the local crafts in our Gift Shop and take a free Guided Tour of the displays in the Old Commanda General Store.

We are always glad to see you, so stop by for a coffee and have a chat. Plus, we are always happy to have new faces and hands to help with events and heritage centre programs. Have a great, safe and happy summer. e look forward to meeting with you soon. From all the Board Members and volunteers.
